Who was Colonel Imam?

 Col. Imam’s real name was Brig. Sultan Amir Tarar who served in Pakistan army’s SSG during the Afghan-Soviet war 1979-1989. Col. Imam was a key figure in training Afghan Mujahideen against Soviet Union during the 80’s.

After retirement from Pakistan army, Col. Imam served as the Consulate-General of Pakistan in Herat. He remained active in Afghanistan's civil war until the American invasion in 2001.


 
 During service he was the top student of his course on which he was sent to the US for further courses on the subject of explosives. He was known as a commando-guerrilla warfare specialist & trained Mullah Omar & other Taliban factions & leaders. He was an expert in explosives and sabotage. He claims that he can make an incendiary bomb in 20 minutes, using only the household utilities of a well to do family’s kitchen.

Col. Imam was kidnapped along with fellow ISI officer Khalid Khawaja & British journalist Asad Qureshi on March 26, 2010. In Jan, 2011 Col. Imam was killed by the TTP.
